Gems are easily the most valuable currency inside Sorare Set.

While Essence mainly helps you keep your progression moving through normal pack openings, Gems are the resource that can seriously accelerate your gallery growth (if you use them correctly).

In this guide, we’ll go through exactly what Sorare Set Gems are, how you earn them, how they differ from Essence, and most importantly… when spending them actually makes sense.

Important: now that the Sorare Colors Set has officially started, you can get free 50 Gems using our promo offer below. Enjoy!

Key Points
  • Gems are the premium currency in Sorare Set and are mainly used to buy stronger packs with better player odds.
  • Unlike Set Essence, Gems carry over between different Set editions, making them more valuable long-term.
  • The main ways to earn Gems include Hot Streak progression, missions, the Wheel, special events, and direct purchases.
  • Good Gem management usually means saving for strong collection opportunities instead of opening random premium packs immediately.
  • Essence supports daily progression, while Gems are mainly used to accelerate gallery quality and improve long-term progression.

What are Sorare Set Gems?

In simple terms, Gems are the premium currency inside Sorare Set.

They are much rarer than Essence and are mainly designed to give managers access to stronger card pack opportunities.

While Essence usually keeps your normal day-to-day progression moving, Gems are more about accelerating your gallery growth with better quality cards.

And honestly, the difference between the two really becomes noticeable once you start opening higher-quality packs.

Inside most Set editions, Gems are mainly used for:

  • Silver Packs
  • Gold Packs
  • Special premium pack offers

Those packs usually contain:

  • Better player odds
  • Fewer low-tier cards
  • Higher chances for Star and Icon players
  • More Special Edition cards

That is why Gems naturally become much more valuable than normal Essence.

You simply earn them far less often.

And if you ask me, this changes the psychology of pack opening quite a bit.

Managers usually spend Essence relatively freely.

Gems, however, often feel more like long-term investments (even if Set editions don’t last more than 2 months :)).

Another important thing newer managers should understand is this: Sorare Set Gems are completely separate from Sorare Pro.

You cannot transfer them into Pro gameplay, use them for market purchases, or convert them into Pro Essence.

They exist purely inside the Set ecosystem.

Gems vs Essence

Even though both currencies exist inside Sorare Set, they serve very different purposes.

And to be fair, understanding that difference is one of the biggest steps toward managing your Set progression properly.

From my experience, newer managers often treat Gems and Essence almost the same way early on. I know I did!

But once you spend more time inside the mode, you quickly realize they operate on completely different value levels.

Essence = daily progression

Essence is the core progression currency of the mode.

You earn it constantly through:

  • Hot Streak levels
  • Missions
  • The Wheel
  • Scrapping cards
  • Daily gameplay

And its main purpose is simple: Opening Bronze packs consistently in order to keep your collection growing.

Essence is designed to flow regularly through the system.

You spend it often. You earn it often.

That is why most managers usually treat Essence as a more “active” resource.

Gems = premium progression

Gems, on the other hand, are much more limited and valuable.

They are mainly designed for premium pack opportunities with:

  • Better player odds
  • Higher-tier cards
  • More Special Editions
  • Fewer weak pulls

You earn Gems much more slowly through gameplay.

And unlike Essence, Gems can also be purchased directly with real money.

That naturally makes managers much more careful about how they spend them.

At least… they should be careful 🙂

Long-term value

Personally, I think the biggest difference is not even the card pack quality itself.

It is the long-term value pressure attached to each currency.

When you spend 1,000 Essence badly, it usually does not feel catastrophic because you can recover that amount the next day (or even instantly if you have good cards to scrap).

But wasting Gems on poor pack decisions often feels much worse because rebuilding that balance takes considerably longer.

Especially for free-to-play managers.

Carry over

There is also one very important distinction between the two systems.

Essence is tied to specific Set editions.

For example:

  • WNTR Essence
  • Stellar Essence

Once those editions end, that Essence loses its utility.

Gems, however, carry over between Set editions.

That makes them much more flexible long-term.

So which currency matters more?

The reality is that both matter.

Just in different ways.

Essence keeps your daily progression engine running.

Gems are what help accelerate your gallery quality and unlock stronger opportunities.

In my opinion, the best managers usually combine both systems properly instead of over-focusing on only one.

Strong Essence management creates consistency.

Strong Gem management creates quality acceleration.

And when both start working together properly, that is usually when Sorare Set progression starts feeling much smoother overall.

How to Get Sorare Set Gems

Unlike Essence, Gems are intentionally much harder to obtain inside Sorare Set.

That is what gives them their value.

They are designed to feel more premium, more limited, and much more impactful (when spent correctly).

Here are the main ways to obtain Gems inside the mode.

1. Hot Streak Progression

Gems during Hot Streaks

The most common free-to-play source of Gems is progressing through the higher levels of the Hot Streak board.

Early stages usually reward Essence.

But once you climb further into the board (usually around the 3-4 steps), Gems start appearing much more frequently. In the image above you see my current struggles at Step #4, competing for 30 Gems. The step before I collected 10.

And honestly, this creates one of the smartest parts of the Set progression system.

You first build your gallery with Essence rewards… then stronger galleries help you reach the Gem rewards later.

2. The Wheel

Gems on the wheel

Another way to earn Gems is through the Wheel.

Wheel spins obtained from daily missions and progression rewards sometimes contain Gem prizes, although I’ll be honest: I’m yet to win any Gems from The Wheel.

The amounts are usually smaller, but over time they add up surprisingly well.

3. Collect Missions

Gems for collecting missions

Some Collect Missions also reward Gems at higher progression checkpoints.

This is one of the reasons why focusing your gallery around specific leagues, clubs, or players usually works much better than opening completely random packs forever.

The more efficiently your collections progress, the faster you start unlocking the stronger rewards.

4. Special Events

Gems for referrals

Certain Set editions also introduce temporary Gem rewards through:

  • Referrals (as seen in the image above)
  • Launch bonuses
  • Loyalty rewards
  • Transition campaigns between Set editions

For example, some managers received bonus Gems for their activity during previous Set editions before transitioning into new ones.

So keeping an eye on official announcements can matter quite a lot.

5. Buying Gems Directly

Buying gems

And yes… unlike Essence, Sorare Set Gems can also be purchased directly with real money.

Sorare offers multiple Gem bundles depending on how much you want to spend.

Smaller packs start very cheaply, while larger bundles include bonus Gems on top of the base amount.

For example:

  • 5 Gems
  • 25 Gems (+ bonus)
  • 50 Gems (+ bonus)
  • 100 Gems (+ bonus)
  • 200 Gems (+ bonus)
  • 500 Gems (+ bonus)

And honestly, this is where every manager needs to decide what type of Set experience they personally want.

Because the mode absolutely works as free-to-play.

You can still progress, build collections, and reach mid-to-high streak levels without spending money (albeit with luck on your side :)).

But at the same time, buying Gems can noticeably accelerate progression.

Personally, I think the healthiest approach is treating Gems as a way to enhance progression rather than trying to brute-force the entire mode through spending alone.

Because even with premium packs, good long-term strategy still matters much more than simply opening huge amounts of cards randomly.

And if I’m 100% honest, I still prefer to keep my “real” money for the Pro game 🙂

How to Spend Gems Effectively

If Essence is the fuel of Sorare Set, then Gems are probably the “high-value ammunition” of the mode.

You simply earn them too slowly to spend them carelessly.

And from my experience, the difference between good and bad Gem management becomes extremely noticeable later into a Set edition.

Managers who spend Gems strategically usually build much stronger galleries over time.

Managers who panic-open random premium packs often end up disappointed very quickly.

1. Don’t spend gems immediately

This is probably the biggest mistake newer managers make.

The moment they collect enough Gems for a premium pack… they instantly spend everything.

But patience is usually much more valuable inside Sorare Set.

Not every moment during a Set edition offers the same pack value.

Sometimes better opportunities appear later through:

  • Improved player odds
  • Special card pack events
  • Guaranteed special Edition cards

2. Focus on packs that fit your strategy

This is extremely important.

Premium packs are much more valuable when they directly support your existing gallery goals.

For example, if you mainly focus on:

  • Premier League collections
  • Barcelona cards
  • Bayern cards

…then opening unrelated premium packs usually slows your overall Collection Bonus growth.

And Collection Bonuses matter a lot more than many newer managers initially realize.

Especially once Hot Streak score targets become difficult.

3. Use gems to chase higher-tier cards

One of the biggest strengths of Gem packs is improved odds.

Compared to normal Essence packs, premium Gem packs offer:

  • Better chances for Star players
  • Better chances for Icon players
  • Fewer low-tier pulls
  • More Special Edition cards

That does not guarantee amazing packs every time, of course.

But over larger sample sizes, the overall gallery quality usually becomes noticeably stronger.

And honestly, this is where Gems can accelerate progression the most.

Not through quantity… but through improving the average quality of your collection.

4. Buy early

Personally, I think Gems are usually strongest early during a Set lifecycle.

Why?

Because early pulls have more time to generate value throughout the entire edition.

A strong premium card pulled near the beginning can help:

  • Clear more streak levels
  • Farm more rewards
  • Complete more missions
  • Improve collections for weeks

Late-edition spending can still work well, but the total long-term impact is naturally smaller because less gameplay time remains.

Also, there’s an unofficial theory going around that Sorare rewards better cards early to have as many people as possible sharing their card pulls and effectively promoting the game for free. But it’s only a theory… 🙂

5. Avoid the “casino trap”

This is probably the most important advice overall.

Premium packs are exciting.

Especially after saving Gems for days or weeks.

But it is still important to remember that Sorare Set remains heavily luck-based.

You can absolutely open expensive premium packs and still receive disappointing results.

That is normal.

Good managers usually focus on improving long-term averages instead of expecting every single pack opening to feel amazing.

And honestly, I think that mindset alone prevents a huge amount of frustration inside the mode.
